A friend and co-worker recently found out they are adopting and only had two weeks to prepare for the baby. Wanting to make a baby quilt but super short on time, I found this cute and easy design from jedicraftgirl. What I like about this design is that it’s simple yet can be customized to fit any personality or nursery theme depending on the fabrics you choose.
The following image was helpful in planning for the quilt design, but it didn’t tell me how much material total I would need. This is when a quilting calculator comes in handy. Lucky for you, I already did the math so I’ll share the knowledge.
Materials Needed:
White Dot: 1/2 yard
Grey Birds: 1/2 yard
5 x 5 Squares: 1-1/8 total yards
Backing: 1-1/2 yards
Binding: 5.5 yards long, 1/2 yard of material
Directions for this project are simple.
Prewash your material, especially if it is different brands or blends. I used flannel for my quilt top and cotton for the backing.
Iron the material, then cut it out according to the specifications above.
Sew together in rows, ironing as you go.
Apply the batting and backing and quilt or tie together. I chose to machine quilt straight lines across since I was shot on time.
Once it’s quilted, apply the binding and you’re set!
