Celebrate Recovery: Lesson 10- Spiritual Inventory Part 1

Principle 4: Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.

Happy are the pure in heart. -Matthew 5:8

Step 4: We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. -Lamentations 3:40

Lesson 10 is the first part of the spiritual inventory you will complete. As it’s name indicates, this part of your self-examination focuses on your spiritual health and well-being, your motives, and your innermost thoughts and feelings.

Unlike lesson 9, this lesson has questions for you to contemplate and answer regarding your spirituality. The first part of the spiritual inventory does have a bit of overlap on lesson 9’s inventory, which may help to bring things to the surface that you’ve forgotten. Feel free to go back and add those to your chart.

Lesson 10 focuses on four main aspects of spiritual health: relationships with others, priorities in life, attitude, and integrity. The lesson asks questions from each category that will help you assess where you are at, where you’ve been, and where you’re going when it comes to your spiritual health and well-being.

Relationships with Others

Forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. Don’t bring us into temptation, but delivers us from the evil one. -Matthew 6:12-13

Basically a review of lesson 9, this lesson asks specific questions that may spark new memories or allow you to further express significant life experiences.

Priorities in Life

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Luke 12:34

What areas could you still be holding back from God? What are you still trying to control? Are there past experiences that are interfering with your life today?

These questions and more are addressed as you assess what is important in your life. Be honest and search your heart as you answer these questions.

Attitude

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ forgave you. -Ephesians 4:31-32

How do you speak to others? How do you handle the difficulties of life? Are you kind and loving to others?

Integrity

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirt language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off you old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him. -Colossians 3:5-10

Have you been dishonest in your past? Do you live one way in front of your Christian friends and another at home or work?
